With great power comes great responsibilities- this is not just a quote from a famous Hollywood flick but it’s actually a truth that we all especially the celebs needs to understand. The death of George Floyd in police custody has caused an uproar in America. Celebs have taken to the social media sites to make sure the activism against racism gains momentum and justice is delivered at the earliest.
Several Bollywood celebs like Priyanka Chopra and Disha Patani also came forward to express their solidarity with George Floyd and lend support to the ‘Black Live Matter’ cause. However, they were called out by the netizens for their hypocrisy and ‘selective activism’. Actress Sonam Kapoor also took a dig at Bollywood celebs as she called out their ‘selective wokeness’.
The ‘Delhi 6’ actress shared a cryptic post on her Instagram stories but it clearly indicates whom she is targeting at. Her post read, “Selective wokeness doesn’t work. Clean your house first.”
While Sonam didn’t mention or tag anyone in her post but in the wake of George Floyd’s death it is understandable that she is indeed talking about the Bollywood celebs who generally refrain from talking about the problems in their own country but never miss a chance to raise their voice against atrocities taking place in other countries.
