Sonu Sood showered with praises by the masses for helping migrant workers go back home

Actor Sonu Sood has been grabbing the headlines these days for his noble act of helping migrants go back home by arranging buses for them. Sood has started an initiative, called Ghar Bhejo, with his childhood friend, restaurateur Neeti Goel. Since May 11, the actor along with his friend has flagged off 21 buses carrying 750 migrants to Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. 10 buses have left for Bihar and UP.

Sonu told Mumbai Mirror, “The hardest thing was to get permissions from the home states. We had to make sure the migrants had the necessary documents so that they wouldn’t be stranded at some border for a lack of permissions.”

Sonu and Neeti are paying the fares of these buses from their own pocket. Per trip, the charge of each bus is Rs 64,000 for about 800 km, to Rs 1.8 lakh for between 1,600 to 2,000 km. “In the beginning, we were struggling to find donors, but now, we’ve received calls from other film people and corporate leaders who want to share the costs,” said Goel.

Sonu said that his chartered accountant Pankaj and his team have worked through nights ‘compiling lists that club migrants together based on their final destination’.

For this great deed of Sonu, he has been lauded on social media. He has started trending online as people are calling him ‘real hero’. India is currently under lockdown and migrant and daily wage workers are the ones who are badly affected by it. At this difficult time, actor like Sonu Sood doing such a noble act is really an inspiration.
