The release date of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer, Sooryavanshi is yet again postponed due to the rise in Covid-19 cases. The makers have decided to postpone the release date of Sooryavanshi. It was slated to release in theatres on April 30. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr Uddhav Thackeray had a discussion with the film’s director Rohit Shetty who took this “brave and difficult” decision.
The makers’ statement read: “The Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr Uddhav Thackeray had a discussion with director Rohit Shetty yesterday. In the meeting, Mr Uddhav Thackeray appreciated Rohit Shetty as he took the brave and difficult decision of postponing Sooryavanshi owing to the current COVID situation in the state”.
Sooryavanshi was supposed to release on March 24, 2020, but due to the Coronavirus induced lockdown, it was postponed. Last year on October 15, theatres were allowed to open at 50 percent occupancy. In February 2021, when 100 percent occupancy was allowed by the government, the makers decided to release it in theatres.

Sooryavanshi also stars Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh in pivotal roles and it is Rohit Shetty’s fourth movie of his cop universe after Singham, Singham Returns and Simmba. Akshay Kumar will be playing a DSP and Katrina Kaif will be playing his love interest. They are coming together after nine years.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar has tested positive for COVID-19 and he has been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai.
Also, Emraan Hashmi and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Chehre, Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi’s Bunty Aur Babli 2 have also been postponed for the rise in Covid cases.
