Veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee left for his heavenly abode on Sunday (November 15). He was 85. Chatterjee died at a private hospital in South Kolkata at 12.15 pm. He was suffering from Covid encephalopathy. He was admitted to the hospital on October 6 after he tested positive for Covid-19. The actor tested negative on October 14 but he remained admitted because of health complications. He is survived by wife, son and daughter.
Bengal is mourning the death of the legendary actor. He was best known for his films with Satyajit Ray. Though he was a popular actor of Bengal, his works are appreciated all over. Bollywood celebs like Anil Kapoor, Richa Chadha, Randeep Hooda, Manoj Bajpayee and others mourned the death of the Padma Bhushan winning actor.

Richa Chadha shared an old picture of Chatterjee with Satyajit Ray and wrote, “RIP Soumitra Chatterjee! You live on through your work for eternity! Thank you for the movies. A big, big loss to the world of cinema and art. An era has indeed ended with no one in sight to fill the void.”

Parambrata Chattopadhyay wrote a lengthy note in Bengali and English for the late actor. He also requested media not to call him for reaction. “request friends in the media to not call and ask for a ‘reaction’. This pain, is too personal. This loss doesn’t belong to words, belongs to me alone. #SoumitraChatterjee,” he tweeted.
