Internet sensation Priya Prakash Varrier, popularly known as the ‘wink girl’, is all set to mark her Bollywood debut with the film ‘Sridevi Bungalow’. Just a few days back, the teaser of the film was unveiled and immediately, it started receiving flak. The reason is that the film has an uncanny resemblance to the life of the late veteran actress Sridevi.
Apart from the title, there are several other scenes like Priya (perhaps lying dead) in a bathtub which are very similar to the stories surrounding Sridevi’s death. The maker’s insensitive take had not only irked the netizens, but Boney Kapoor too. In fact, he sent a legal notice to the makers of the film.
Now clarifying her stance, actress Priya Prakash Varrier in an interview to The Times of India said, “Sridevi is just the name of my character in the movie. Who would want to create such controversies? I think the curiosity surrounding the trailer is good and we have to leave it to the audience to judge if the film is based on the veteran actress Sridevi ma’am.”
Whereas the film’s director Prasanth Mambully said, “In the notice, Boney Kapoor has raised a few objections against our film including the usage of the name and doing a biopic of the actress. He wanted us to alter the name of our movie within 24 hours. We sent him a reply explaining that Sridevi was a common name and there was no logic in objecting to it. It is just a coincidence that my movie tells the tale of an actress named Sridevi.”
Well now, only after the movie is released, we will come to know if it is actually based on the late veteran actress Sridevi’s life or not.
Until then, stay tuned.
