Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi starrer Merry Christmas treated us with the first look at the stars from the film. They released the poster and since then we can’t help but wonder what the storyline is all about. While the poster didn’t reveal much about the film, Katrina and Vijay both had intense looks on their faces. In a recent media interaction, director Sriram Raghavan revealed why he cast Katrina and Vijay in the movie as a pair.
Here’s why Sriram Raghavan casted Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi in Merry Christmas
Recently in an interview with News18, director Sriram justified that his choice for the cast was the need of the story. He said, “When you see the film, you’ll know. The story is such that I just needed a very off-beat pairing or casting and I was trying various combinations and permutations and I happened to meet Vijay at a festival in Melbourne and I’d seen some of his films. I just felt, ‘What if I do this odd combination’ and it has got its curiosity value, I hope.”
Furthermore, he elaborated that the film features intriguing roles portrayed by both lead actors. The significant factor behind their casting was the unique opportunity to witness a fresh pairing.
Sriram revealed the reason behind making two versions of Merry Christmas
The filmmaker emphasized that he shot the film in both Hindi and Tamil, with intentional variations between the two versions. Both Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi are taking the lead in both versions, while the supporting cast differs. He shared, “I wanted to make a Tamil film also since Vijay is a very acclaimed actor in the South and I thought it will be just good for us to make two versions of this film. They are broadly the same, 95 percent they are the same but of course, language changes and some characters also I wanted to change so that it doesn’t look like a dubbed film.”
The Hindi version co-stars Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand. On the other hand, the Tamil version of Merry Christmas has Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Rajesh Williams, and Kevin Jay Babu. The upcoming film also introduces Pari, a child actor. On the other hand, Radhika Apte and Ashwini Kalsekar are seen in exciting cameos.
With the first look of Vijay and Katrina out we can’t wait to see what the movie holds! It’s giving me vibes of being something different but we only have to wait until the teaser and trailer drop.
Merry Christmas is set to hit theatres on 15 December 2023. The movie will be clashing with Sidharth Malhotra starrer Yodha releasing on the same date.
