A few days back, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) filed a petition in the Supreme Court for the cancellation of Rhea Chakraborty’s bail granted by the Bombay High Court. The case was heard on Thursday i.e on March 18. A bench of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian heard NCB’s appeal against the bail order. As per a report by PTI, the three-judge bench allowed the prayer of Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, appearing for the apex drug agency, to amend its plea.

The Solicitor General said that he is not against the grant of bail. Pleading to the court, he said, “Please allow me to amend the plea. We will challenge the bail order and also the findings on the NDPS Act.” He requested the apex court to adjourn the matter for next week. Mehta told the court, “My worry is that the Bombay High Court had made certain wide-ranging observations, on the NDPS case (against her)”.

The Supreme Court then told the Solicitor General, “You cannot file a petition against the Bombay High Court’s observations while hearing from the NCB that the Bombay High Court had made certain findings and observations in the Rhea Chakraborty bail order case.”

Rhea Chakraborty was arrested on September 8 by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on charges of drug procurement along with Sushant Singh Rajput. She was in the Byculla jail and was later granted bail by the Bombay High Court. She was asked to deposit a personal bond of ₹ 1 lakh and was also asked not to leave the country without the permission of the special NDPS court.

Rhea was one of the prime suspects in the Sushant Rajput Rajput death case. Her name cropped up when Sushant’s father KK Singh filed an FIR against her. Sushant was found hanging in his apartment in Bandra on June 14, 2020.
