Student Of The Year 2: Not Rishi Kapoor but Samir Soni to be the new college principal

Karan Johar’s ‘Student Of The Year 2’ introduced three newbies to Bollywood; Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan. Six years later, when these three are established stars of the industry, Karan is coming up with sequel, with Tiger Shroff in the lead and Punit Malhotra taking the reigns of direction.

‘Student Of The Year’ was also memorable due to the superb act of Rishi Kapoor as the stern yet cute principal. However, this time we will not be seeing him the role. Instead, actor Samir Soni will be stepping in to take charge of the students.

Talking to DNA, Samir spoke on working in the film.

“SOTY 2 is a fresh story, only the franchise is being carried forward. Rishi is the finest actor we have. He did a fabulous job in the first part and people remember him. I am nervous and excited to step into his shoes, although it’s not the same character. I’m looking forward to the challenge,” said an elated Samir.

Samir even threw some light on his character in the film. He says, “He is not gay, but he has his own quirks. He is not the normal, boring principal. He will make you laugh and smile. It’s a film about students, so there will be a fun element,” smiles the actor who is excited about working with Punit again.

Tiger too had recently opened up on his role in the movie, during the promotions of his upcoming movie ‘Baaghi 2’. He said, “It is going to be an altogether different film than what I have been part of till date. I will be playing a college boy where I will be bullied and I have to do major body transformation for this role. Well, we are quite excited. The film will start rolling in mid-April and is slated to release on November 23 this year.
