Director Sujoy Ghosh says his latest short film “Ahalya” is not inspired by author Roald Dahl’s story.
Set in a contemporary time in Kolkata, the 14-minute “Ahalya” is an epic thriller where the fate of an apsara, a mahirishi and rain god Indra is sealed by a curse.
“I’m amused by murmurings that my short film Ahalya is ‘inspired’ from a Roald Dahl story. I’m amused because anyone who reads, knows that Dahl is an author of children’s books.
“My film, as is evident, is an age old myth, slightly adult in nature, adapted with a feminist twist. I am, however, flattered over the comparisons with Dahl’s work – he is of course, one of the greatest children’s authors of the 20th century,” Ghosh tweeted on Friday.
“Ahalya” features Soumitra Chatterjee and Radhika Apte in lead roles.
