Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal starrer Hera Pheri franchise is considered one of the most epic cult classics to have come out of Bollywood. While the first film released in the year 2000, its sequel Hera Pheri 2 opened in 2006, with both emerging successful. Since then, the speculations regarding a third part have been rife. The buzz around Hera Pheri 3 kept coming and going over the years, but this year, producer Firoz Nadiadwala increased the excitement of the franchise’s fans by assuring that Hera Pheri 3 is indeed in the making. While the fans were excited to see the trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal to return, they received a shocker recently when Akshay was replaced by Kartik Aaryan in the third part.

Kartik’s entry in the franchise was confirmed by Rawal on Twitter. Later on, Akshay himself confirmed his exit from Hera Pheri 3 while speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit. He had said, “The film was offered to me but I was not satisfied with the script. I have to do what people want to see. That is why, I backed out. I took a step behind. It is a part of my life and journey for me. I am also very sad that I can’t do it. But I am not happy with how the creative things have shaped out.”

Now, his co-star from the franchise, Suniel Shetty has reacted to the news of his exit while also holding out hope for Akshay’s return. Talking to Mid-Day on the subject, the actor said, “Everything was on track, but I don’t know what happened suddenly [that] Akshay is not a part of it anymore. Once I am [done with] Dharavi Bank promotions, I will sit with Firoz [Nadiadwala, producer] and understand why and how this happened. Akshay, Paresh and I had committed to the movie, and this twist has stunned me. Hera Pheri 3 cannot be the same without Akshay. Raju, Babu bhaiyya and Shyam are iconic characters whose journeys have been together. There’s palpable excitement when you mention the film. I want to see if things can still fall in place.”
