Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khuranna join forces for Border 2, film to release on Republic Day 2026

Sunny Deol is all set to wreak havoc at the box office with Border 2 alongside Ayushmann Khurrana. The film is a sequel of Sunny’s 1997 film Border. While it’s been a since the film was announced, in a recent update its release date details are out. As per reports, Border 2 will release theatrically on Republic Day in 2026.

As per reports in Pinkvilla, a source close to the development told, “Border 2 is targeting to hit the big screen on Friday, January 23, 2026. It will be leading the Republic Day holiday on Monday, January 26, 2026. Being a film celebrating the bravery of Indian Armed Forces, the makers feel that there is no better date than Republic Day for the arrival of this Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana film.”

The source further informed that Border 2 is envisioned as the biggest war film of Indian Cinema and the makers will be going all out to make a film that does justice to the legacy of the original film. “Border 2 has been in the writing stage for over a year now and the team has cracked a script that stands to the expectations that people would have from a sequel to a mammoth all-time blockbuster like Border. Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana are very excited to embark on this journey by the end of this year,” the source added.

About Border

Border was a war film directed by JP Dutta. Set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, it is an adaptation of real life events that happened during the Battle of Longewala in 1971. Apart from Sunny, Border also starred Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff, and Pooja Bhatt among others.

On the work front, the actor is all set to star in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947 which will be backed by Aamir Khan productions.
