Sunny Deol is a man of immense talent as not just an actor, he is also a director and producer. The artist dons multiple hats and does all of them quite effectively. But he has always been an actor first, and the love he has gotten for Gadar 2 proves that. Maybe that is the reason that has pushed him into focusing on only that for a while as recently, he revealed his future plans on production and direction.
Sunny Deol to quit being a director?
Sunny is currently basking in the success of his recent release Gadar 2 which has created a riot at the box office. The film has collected Rs 456.05 crores in 17 days and is still going strong. The actor has also been going around celebrating the success of Gadar 2 with the world.
In a recent chat with BBC Asian Network, Sunny admitted that he plans to quit direction and production. He insisted that every time he produces a movie, he goes ‘bankrupt’. Sunny spoke about the changing dynamics of the business and not being given freedom to make the kind of film he wants to.
He said, “The world has become very difficult. Years back, I could control things because distribution was normal. They were people we interacted with. There was a connection. Ever since the corporates have come in, there’s nothing. For an individual to stand tall over there, it’s difficult. You have to do your PR, run around, and they won’t give you your number of theatres. They don’t want individuals to be there. I had a tough time with my films in this past decade. You’re trying to do a certain kind of cinema, but you (don’t get the backing).”
Explaining his second reason, Sunny said he is happy being only an actor now. He added, “That’s what I came in for. I became a producer, a director, wearing too many hats. A man can only do one job. So I said, ‘Throw everything away, just become an actor.’ So that’s what I want to do now. Do as many films as I can as an actor.”
