Sunny Deol recalls requesting Akshay Kumar to avoid clash between Gadar 2 and OMG 2: I told him, ‘Please don’t do it if it’s in your hands’

Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol made an appearance on Karan Johar’s chat Koffee With Karan season 8. The Deol brothers bared their hearts out. During the fun and candid conversation, Karan Johar asked Sunny about Gadar 2’s clash with Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2. Gadar 2 and OMG 2 released in the theatres on 11th August. Sunny revealed that he had a conversation with Akshay Kumar to avoid a clash between Gadar 2 and OMG 2.

Sunny revealed, “I thought my film was releasing and I haven’t had a success for donkey’s years and I didn’t want anybody else to come along with it. Well, but you can’t stop anybody. So obviously, it does hurt you. But then I said does it matter? Let’s go along with it. Doesn’t matter. Let’s just do it.”

Recalling his conversation with Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol said, “Obviously, I asked him ‘Please don’t do it if it’s in your hands’ But he said, ‘No, the studio…’ and all that. And they said, ‘Two films can release’. So, I said, ‘Okay go ahead.’ I can just request. I can’t do anything more than that.”

Gadar 2 and OMG 2 did well at the box office. With Gadar 2, Sunny returned back as Tara Singh whereas Ameesha Patel reprised her role of Sakina. Fans loved their chemistry and acting in the sequel. On the other hand, OMG 2 starred Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva’s messenger. Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam were also a part of it.

Sunny reacts to Gadar 2’s ‘organic’ box office numbers

Furthermore, Karan asked Sunny about his repeated claims that Gadar 2 had organic box office numbers. KJo asked, “What does that really mean? Are we inflating box office numbers?,” to which Sunny replied, “I know that does happen, that’s the way the society is moving right now.” When asked, “Is that why the tagline on Gadar 2 was, “Hindustan ka asli blockbuster’?“, Sunny laughed it off. For the uninitiated, Gadar 2 earned over Rs 600 crores.
