Actress Sunny Leone’s extraordinary life is out for the public to watch. The biopic web series titled ‘Karenjit Kaur- The Untold Story Of Leone’ takes us on a roller-coaster ride tracing her journey from being a girl-next-door to a Bollywood star. It has been only a day since its premiere, and the web-series is mired in a controversy already.
The objection raised by the many religious communities is due to the use of ‘Kaur’ in the title. A member of the Akali Dal, Majinder Sirsa, justified their point of view in an interview with ANI. He said, “We have no objection with her profession, it’s her personal life. Our only objection is simply that we want them to remove the surname ‘Kaur’ because when she herself had earlier dropped ‘Kaur’ from her name then why it is being used now? We have urged the Chairman of Essel Group, Subash Chandra, to immediately remove it or face the consequences.”
He further stated that if ‘Kaur’ isn’t removed from the title, they will be forced to protest against the biopic. Besides Akali Dal, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has also objected the use of it. The additional secretary ad spokesperson SGPC, Diljit Singh Bedi, said, “Kaur is a very respectable name given by Sikh gurus to Sikh women. A person who didn’t follow the teachings of Sikh Gurus shouldn’t use the word Kaur as this could hurt Sikh religious feelings. Sikhs will not allow her to use it. She should tender a public apology.”
