The Supreme Court dismissed a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to cancel the lookout circulars against actor Rhea Chakraborty in connection to the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Not just Rhea, but even against her brother Showik and her father Lt Col Indrajit Chakraborty (retd). According to a report in Live Law, the Bench accused the CBI, the state of Maharashtra and Bureau of Immigration for challenging the Bombay High Court’s decision.
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan warned the CBI while also calling the petition ‘frivolous’. “We are warning. You are filing such a frivolous petition, only because one of the accused is a high-profile person. It will be with exemplary cost. Both persons have deep roots in society,” Justice Gavai said when the CBI counsel sought a pass-over of the matter, the report added. “If you want cost and some compliments to CBI, we will pass-over,” Justice Gavai said.
The lookout circulars were passed against Rhea Chakraborty and her family when Sushant Singh Rajput family filed a complaint against her. They accused her of abetment to suicide in 2020 and since then, CBI has been looking into the case. Rhea even spent 28 days in the Byculla jail and faced the utmost hate from his fans.
Rhea Chakraborty recalls her time in Jail
The Jalebi actor said, “Jail is actually a very different world because there’s no society in jail. There is a weird sense of equality. Everyone is a number, the are not a person. You are a UT number when you are in under trial prison…It’s a strange world, it’s a very evolved crowd. Because it’s just human emotion at its basic rawest. It’s survival. You have to survive each day, and each day feels like a year. It takes a long time for a day to finish because you’re literally doing nothing. There it is paused.“
Sushant Singh Rajput passed away on June 14, 2020, after reportedly hanging himself at his Bandra apartment.
