On Monday, Rhea Chakraborty moved the Supreme Court and filed an affidavit, alleging media trial and attempts to pronounce her guilty for the death of her boyfriend, Sushant Singh Rajput. Chakraborty in her plea alleged that the death of Sushant is being “sensationalised by the media”. In her 11-page affidavit, Rhea said that she should not be made “scapegoat of political agendas” in the Rajput’s death case.
On Rhea’s plea, Sushant’s family lawyer Vikas Singh has questioned how can free speech be curtailed. He told ANI, “If media wants to get to the truth how can anybody say that free speech should be curtailed? When Mumbai Police called people from Bollywood & it was reported, she didn’t have problems. Only when media trial is coming to the truth she has problems.”
The affidavit said, “This has led to the suicide being blown out of proportion. Actors Ashutosh Bhakre and Sameer Sharma were also reported to have died by suicide in last 30 days and yet no whisper about the same in power corridors. In case of death of Sushant Singh Rajput, Chief Minister of Bihar is reported to be responsible for the registration of FIR in Patna.”

It further said, “Extreme trauma and infringement of privacy of the rights of the petitioner is caused due to constant sensationalisation of this case. Media had convicted accused in 2G and Talwar case in a similar fashion where each and every accused was later on found innocent by the Courts.”
