Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ is not banned in Pakistan

There were reports that suggested Sushant Singh Rajput starrer ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story‘ has faced a ban in Pakistan post the issue of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) attack on Pakistani actors, asking them to leave India. But this latest development states that this Neeraj Pandey directorial is not banned in the neighbouring country, according to the spokespersons of the Pakistani censor board. It has been claimed that Dhoni biopic was never imported to Pakistan for certification.

Mobashir Hasan, the Central Board of Film Censors’ Chairperson has been quoted in a report in The Express Tribune which reads, “How can we ban a film that’s not been submitted for certification? The local distributors have not even applied for the NoC of the film. We certify every film keeping Pakistan’s integrity, security and sovereignty in mind. As per our rules and regulations, we try our best to take every decision on merit.”

“So far nothing has been communicated to us. We are working as per normal routine. Only last week, we approved ‘Banjo’ without suggesting a single cut, giving it a Universal rating, added Hasan  when asked if the board has received any specific instructions about Indian films.

Further, IMGC Entertainment, the distribution company that was supposed to release this Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer in Pakistan admitted that they decided not to import it due to the rising tensions between the two countries.

“We wouldn’t want to release anything that can aggravate the current situation of the two countries. Dhoni is India’s hero, so it’s risky,” [sic] said the company’s media and marketing manager Sabina Islam.

‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ also stars Disha Patani, Kiara Advani, Bhumika Chawla and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles. It is slated to release this Friday, on September 30.
