It is assumed for star kids in Bollywood or for that matter any child with privilege that it is through that advantage will they get an upper hand when it comes to landing a movie or show in the industry. So when Sushmita Sen’s daughter Renee Sen went down the un-star kid road and decided to not use her mother’s name to get work, it’s safe to say and it was a shocker. Sushmita was extremely proud when Renee made herself known, starting out with the short film Suttabaazi. Renee’s performance in the short film was widely applauded, but in an exclusive conversation with us, she says the fact that she landed the role on her own merit helps her sleep at night.
When we asked her why did she decide to not use the privilege of being Sushmita Sen’s daughter, Renee said, “My mom has always instilled that, if you want something, you will have to go and get it yourself. The whole concept of self-worth has to be there. This debut was not necessarily planned but it is what I got on my own merit. Even for the work that I will continue to do will be on my merit. That is something that really helps me sleep at night. You know and my mom was saying that. I want you to make it on your own and do it on your own, now I understand that feeling.”
She further added that she wanted her success and failures to be her own and not have them as Sushmita Sen’s daughter Renee Sen, “You know, sometimes we want to take the easy way out. Even I felt like that, that my mom is someone. But then, would that success be mine or would that failure be mine? At the end of the day, it is not going to be mine. When I turned 18 my mom told me from today all your successes and all your failures will be yours. There were days when I thought that maybe I will take the easy way out but no that is not how it is.”
