‘Chumbak’ was a Marathi film that released in October 2017 and captured a lot of hearts with its simple plotline. The movie stars singer-lyricist turned actor Swanand Kirkire who recently won a National Award for his stellar performance in the movie.
The movie revolves around the friendship of a restaurant worker boy – Baalu – and a simple mentally-ill middle-aged village man – Prasanna (Swanand Kirkire). They are thrown together due to circumstances. Swanand bagged the Best Actor in a supporting role for ‘Chumbak’ in the 56th Maharashtra State Film Awards earlier this year.
Swanand Kirkire has now bagged the Best Supporting Actor award for the film ‘Chumbak’ at the 66th National Film Awards. We got in touch with Swanand and he seemed over the moon with his National Award win. He said, “I’m really happy for getting this award, really thankful for Akshay Kumar, the director of the film – Sandeep Modi and the crew. Didn’t expect that I would get such an honourable award for acting.” When we asked him about his celebrations plan after the big win, he said, “I’m currently in Madhya Pradesh and got to know about getting this award. Truly happy!”
Akshay Kumar had taken interest in the film and went on to present it eventually. ‘Chumbak’ is directed by Sandeep Modi and produced by Aruna Bhatia, Naren Kumar and Cape of Good Films.
