Swara Bhasker on Absolutism: It is very dangerous for a country like India where there is so much diversity

Swara Bhasker is a politically and socially aware person. She speaks her mind and has always expressed her views about issues that affect our society and our country. She even becomes the target of trolls more often. But Swara too hits back with her befitting replies. We recently had a conversation with Swara, where we asked her how harmful ‘absolutism’ can be. To which she said, “Absolutism ka hum aur ek word de sakte hain, woh hain ektantra jo loktantra ke opposite hain. Woh Bharat jaise dekh ke liye khatarnak hain. Humare desh main bohot sare bhasha, dialects, caste, hain so aise desh main toh absolutism aur ektantra ya kisi bhi kisam ka totalitarianism hain woh toh kharab hi karega na samajh ko. Woh humare DNA ke khilaaf hain.”

She added, “Jo hum aapne samajh main dekhte hain na jaise hi personality cult, blind hero worship aur ek aisi koshish ki sabko ek hi jaisa sochna chahiye. Koi bhi difference of opinion hain toh woh anti-national ho jata hain aur ye itna stupid level pe ja chuka hain ki journalist ko anti-nationalist bol diya gaya kyunki woh bhi filmy jhagde pe. Entertainment journalists kya anti-nationalist hoga.”

Swara also questioned the ‘One Nation One Language’ concept. She said, “Ye jo one nation one language, kaise? Iss desh main itni bhashayein hain, hum kaise ek language kisi pe impose kar sakte hain? So, it is very dangerous for our society and for our thought. What absolutism does is it kills the power to question in the society kyunki absolutism can’t live with questions.”

She continued, “We have seen this in communist countries and also with right-wing for example Taliban. Extremism ka ek hi end hota hain woh hain absolutism, totalitarian and destruction.”
