Actress Taapsee Pannu marked her Bollywood debut with ‘Chashme Baddoor’ in 2013, but it was Shoojit Sircar’s 2016 drama ‘Pink’ that put her on the block. Ever since then, Pannu has her bag filled with brilliant scripts. Taapsee’s next happens to be yet another inspiring story in which she will be playing the role of a sharpshooter.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the film is based on two real-life women professional shooters who became successful against all odds. It was to feature Taapsee Pannu alongside Kriti Sanon. However, due to a full diary, Kriti had quit the film and was replaced by Bhumi Pednekar. Bhumi, who has appeared in films where she played a middle-class woman struggling to find space for herself in patriarchal set-ups, is all set to revamp her image with ‘Womaniya’ and ‘Son Chiriya’.
The film is helmed by debutant director, Tushar Hiranandani. While there hasn’t been much development on the movie, a report in DNA suggests that it is slated to go on floors in January. “The film will be shot in a small village in Uttar Pradesh. Taapsee and Bhumi will be perfecting the local dialect as the story is set in rural UP. The shoot has been scheduled for January because the winter environment in the state will enhance the narrative,” a source close to the daily added.
For the uninitiated, ‘Womaniya’ is based on real-life women sharpshooters Prakashi and Chandro Tomar. The two sisters-in-law learned shooting after the age of 60 and managed to even win awards in it.
