It’s Official: Taapsee Pannu to play cricketer Mithali Raj in her biopic ‘Shabaash Mithu’

Taapsee Pannu is not just a great actress but she also has a great sense of the kind of scripts one should pick. After enthralling the audience with recent films like ‘Badla’ and ‘Saand Ki Aankh’, the actress has quite an interesting line up of films.

After a lot of speculations regarding who will be playing Indian cricketer Mithali Raj in her biopic, its finally confirmed that Taapsee Pannu will be stepping in her shoes. Yes, Taapsee will be starring in Mithali Raj’s which is titled ‘Shabaash Mithu’

Confirming the news on Mithali’s birthday, Taapsee shared a few pictures with her and wrote, “Happy Happy Birthday Captain @mithaliraj ! You have made all of us proud in more than many ways and it’s truly an honour to be chosen to showcase your journey on screen. On this Birthday of yours I don’t know what gift I can give you but this promise that I shall give it all I have to make sure you will be proud of what you see of yourself on screen with #ShabaashMithu.P.S- I am all prepared to learn THE ‘cover drive’(sic).”

The biopic will be helmed by Rahul Dholakia and produced by Viacom18 Studios. Perhaps this is the first time when we will se an Indian film based on the life of a female cricketer. And who better than Mithali Raj, who is regarded as one of the greatest batswomen to have ever played the game. She is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket and the only female cricketer to surpass the 6,000 run mark in WODIs.

It will be a sheer pleasure to watch Taapsee play Mithali and we just can’t wait for the film’s release.
