Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain died at a hospital in San Francisco in the US. He was 73-yesrs-old and passed away due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. It is a chronic disease affecting the lungs. While a day ago his nephew cleared the air on his death reports, Zakir’s family has now issued an official statement.

Hussain’s sister Khurshid Aulia said he passed away “very peacefully”. She stated, “He passed away very peacefully after the ventilation machine was switched off. This was 4 pm San Francisco time,” she told PTI. The family said in its statement, “He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy cherished by countless music lovers around the globe, with an influence that will resonate for generations to come.”
The musician has been ill for quite some time and rumours of his death started circulating on Sunday (15th December). However his nephew debunked them stating, “My uncle Zakir Hussain is very much alive. We ask the news media to stop posting false information. He is in a serious condition, and we urge his fans around the world to pray for his recovery.” As soon as the news went viral, several celebs including Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Malaika Arora and others penned condolence message.
