Thackeray Mid-Ticket Review

The first half of ‘Thackeray’ is loaded with soul-stirring scenes that have so much more drama than a boring Civics lecture like ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’. Initially, we get to see the cartoonist Bal Thackeray (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who is angered by how Maharashtrians are treated in their own territory. He quits his job and starts a Sangathan – Shiv Sena. As expected, there are plenty of hard-hitting dialogues that may stir a few feathers. People who believe that Mumbai is for everyone may take objection to the movie as its narrative caters to those who organise bandhs in the city.

The first half is shot entirely in black and white which is a brave move that manages to recreate the era wonderfully. Nawaz has acted really well, but perhaps his make-up artist could have done a better job. The movie also manages to bring alive the aura of Bal Thackeray with some great background music and excellent camera work. The second half promises to be packed with some great dialogues and we are really looking forward to it.
