Rudyard Kipling is the forever favourite author in the children’s books and The Jungle Book authored by him still remains one of the best in children’s literature. However, the new cinematic version of the book which is set to release on Friday (April 8), has been granted ‘UA’ certificate. A ‘UA’ certificate signifies that the children will be allowed into theatres only if accompanied by parents.
This has certainly raised questions as most of us do not find a suitable answer as to why a piece like ‘The Jungle Book’ is not suited for minors to watch alone. However, CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani has his own justification.
“Please don’t go by the reputation of the book. See the film and then decide on the suitability of the content for kids. The 3D effects are so scary that the animals seem to jump right at the audience. It’s not just the story that determines certification. It’s the overall presentation, the packaging and most important of all, the visual affects used to tell the story. In ‘The Jungle Book’, the jungle animals jumping at the audience in 3D is startling. It’s up to parents to decide how much of these effects are suited for their children,” he says.
