Ki and Ka

Do you know the year? It’s 2016. The history of man has been riddled with gender inequality on a scale that is shameful to speak of. And yet here we are. Sixteen years into the new millennium and nothing has changed. Women, and not to forget the men, are still struggling to find their space.

Societies, countries, cities and villages experience varying degrees of such discrimination. And India is no stranger to this phenomenon. It is an issue that is very much ignored in almost every aspect of the Indian strata, including one of the biggest media industries – Bollywood.

“Different” is a word that is not thrown around much by influencers. And that is why R. Balki’s latest film ‘Ki & Ka’, is another step in an attempt to shake things up. Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor, the film strongly questions the existing gender roles in our society. It has generated a lot of buzz for being different and its one-of-a-kind story with a unique cast.

The release of the motion poster, carried out by none other than the legendary Amitabh Bachchan on Facebook, already earned the film many accolades. Now the trailer release across all platforms is garnering incredibly positive reviews and many can’t wait for such a unique film to hit the theatres.

We, as the digital partner for this out-of-the-box film, devised a clever way for people to relate to these characters. Once the viewer has watched the trailer, a question pops up at the end asking “Who are you in your relationship? Ki or Ka?”. It asks the viewer, if they are the fiercely independent, career oriented, outspoken Ki or the homely, caring Ka? It makes the viewer think and that is exactly what the makers intended.

Once the viewer answers and clicks the share button, the trailer is shared on the user’s timeline on Facebook with another caption – “Watch the trailer now to find out who you are in your life? It is a question that clicks with the audience and engages them in a unique and thoughtful way. We think this film may shake things up, make you rethink and approach your relationship in whole new ways.
