The wait extends, Rajkumar Santoshi’s film with Salman Khan delayed

The fans of Salman Khan were in for a treat when there was a rumour that he might be teaming up again with his ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ director Rajkumar Santoshi. The duo was supposedly planning to come up with a rom-com that was slated for a Diwali 2017 release. However, seems like the fans will have to wait a bit. If the sources are to be believed now this project has been put on the backburner. Instead, the ‘Ghayal’ helmer is now busy with his new project to be produced under the banner of Wave Cinemas.

Recently, at the birthday bash of Wave Cinema’s Group Chairman Raju Chadha this project was locked which is extremely close to his heart. Talking further about the details of this project, Rahul Mittra, CEO of Wave Cinemas told a leading daily that, “The moment we knew that Santoshi’s film with Salman was not happening immediately, we decided to roll with ours. The mahurat shot will be on September 12.”

Apparently, the movie has been titled ‘Saragarhi’, which is based around the plot of the Battle of Saragarhi, which was fought on September 12, 1897, between the British Indian Army and the Afghan Orakzai tribesmen in North-West India, which is now known as the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The Indian contingent comprising 21 Sikhs of the 36th Sikhs, the 4th battalion of the Sikh regiment, was stationed at an army post when they were attacked by 10,000 Afghanis. Led by Havildar Ishar Singh, they fought till the last man before the post was recaptured, two days later, by another British Indian contingent led by Sikhs. The battle is one of history’s greatest last-stands and Sikhs commemorate it every year, celebrating September 12 as Saragarhi Day.

“We will recreate the 1800’s. Santoshi’s knowledge of history and his sense of the era is unparalleled. We will be shooting on lavish sets with a magnum opus approach. We need 21 heroes so casting is currently being finalised. An announcement will be made soon,” added Mittra.

Certainly, this delay of Salman Khan’s project would be quite disappointing for his fans but knowing a filmmaker like Rajkumar Santoshi with such a grand historical project the moviegoers would be damn excited with this soon official announcement of ‘Saragarhi’.
