The makers of ’83 which stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role of cricketer Kapil Dev, have organised a special event for the first Indian cricket world cup winners. The interesting part is that the invites are quite fascinating and are on the lines of the event which will be held on Sept 27, 2017. The theme of the invites is in sync with the movie’s basic theme of cricket which consists of a ball and bat as the movie is based on the 1983 World Cup victory of India.
The most fun and exciting bit of the invite is that the bat has been signed by the champions of the 1983 World Cup and has a tagline as ’83, when it happened. In the year 1983, India bagged its first ever World Cup in cricket, in England. The winning team comprised of Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar, Kirti Azad, Yashpal Sharma, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Roger Binny, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Sandeep Patil, Syed Kirmani, Madan Lal, Ravi Shastri, Dilip Vengsarkar and Sunil Valson, along with their manager P R Man Singh. So ’83 is the story of those 14 players who believed in themselves and brought India its first ever World Cup. (Also Read: Ranveer to meet 1983 cricket World Cup players to prepare for his next!)
Speaking about the movie, director Kabir Khan had said, “As a young schoolboy when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup, I had no idea that from that day onwards cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script.”
The movie is directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Phantom Films, Vishnu Vardhan Induri of Vibri Media, Reliance Entertainment and Kabir Khan Films.
