Hers is a character that still fascinates us. Indira Gandhi, the first female Prime Minister of India, with all her glory and disputes, is etched in India’s sociopolitical history forever. No wonder filmmakers would want to give life to her story cinematically. (Also Read: Vidya Balan admits THIS Bollywood director asked her to get a plastic surgery done)
Last year, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar made an attempt of portraying the plague of Indian emergency (June 1975- March 1977) as issued by Gandhi, the then PM, in his movie ‘Indu Sarkar’. The film met with lukewarm response. This time around, another film on her story is in making. The rights of author Sagarika Ghose’s book ‘Indira, India’s Most Powerful PM’ have been acquired by Roy Kapur Films. The titular role will be played by Vidya Balan.
Just signed the contract for movie rights for my book "Indira, India's Most Powerful PM" with @vidya_balan and @roykapurfilms! Utterly elated!! Look fwd to seeing INDIRA on screen! @juggernautbooks #IndiraTheMovie
