After receiving flak for his derogatory remarks made on Diana Hayden, Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb recently apologized for the same.
At a recent media conference, the minister said, “I was talking about how the handlooms of the state could be marketed well. If anybody is hurt or feeling defamed, I regret this… I respect all women as my mother.”
For the uninitiated the CM in his previous statement had said questioned the logic behind how Daina Hayden was crowned ‘Miss World”. In fact he was even quoted saying, “Indian women did not use cosmetics in the old times. Indians did not use shampoo, they washed their hair with methi water and bathed with mud. These beauty pageant organisers are international marketing mafia, who spotted a huge market in the country. Today, there is a beauty parlour in every corner of the country.”(Also read: Diana Hayden hits back at Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb’s for his derogatory comments)
After that the actress hit back at the CM by saying, “I am fighting this brown skin bias since my childhood. And I have succeeded. People should be proud of my achievement, rather than belittling it. I am a proud brown-skinned Indian. I am hurt. The minister is in a prominent position and he should be careful about what he says. We need to be proud of our skin (colour). God knows, it is appreciated all around the world. Everybody wants to have our skin colour. The last thing we need is our own people not appreciating it.”
