Indian playback singer-composer, Anup Ghoshal, passed away today at the age of 78. He was admitted to a private hospital in South Kolkata since a week and succumbed to multiple organ failure. He dies on Friday at 1.40 pm. The singer received nation-wide fame with his popular song ‘Tujhse Naraz Nahi Zindagi’ from Masoom. He is survived by two daughters.
Mamata Banerjee mourns the demise of Anup Ghoshal
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled his death. In her message, the chief minister said to a news portal, ‘I express my deep grief and condolence over the death of Anup Ghosal who had sung in Bengali, Hindi and other languages.’

About Anup Ghoshal
Anup Ghoshal started his musical journey at the age of 4. He has received formal training from his mother and studied different genres of classical music including Thumri, Kheyal, Bhjan, Rag Pradhan, and Rabindra Sangeet among other songs. Ghosal’s collaboration with legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray on projects like ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne’ and ‘Hirak Rajar Deshe’ solidified his status as a prolific playback singer. Director Tapan Sinha also used his voice in his film ‘Sagina Mahato’ (1971). Other notable films in which Ghoshal was the playback singer include ‘Fuleswari’, ’Marjina Abdalla’ and ‘Chhadmabeshi’.

Besides being an acclaimed singer, Ghosal was also a one-term Trinamool Congress legislator from Uttarpara in Hooghly district. He was elected in 2011 when the current TMC regime came to power in West Bengal after ending the 34-year rule of the Left Front.
