Twitter India has reacted to Paresh Rawal-Abhijeet-Arundhati Roy row

A huge controversy erupted when senior actor Paresh Rawal tweeted, “Instead of tying stone pelter on the army jeep tie Arundhati Roy.” He had tweeted this in reference to the Kashmiri incident wherein a man was used as a shield by security personnel to prevent a mob. This single tweet gave way to a huge controversy as singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya used foul language against Arundhati Roy and other women, leading to his account being suspended by Twitter India. The situation further worsened when singer Sonu Nigam deleted his Twitter account by first going on a 24-tweet rant.

Well, amidst this all, the tweet which had started it off, that of senior actor Paresh Rawal, was missing, probably because he deleted it. Later, he released a letter which read, “With this letter, I inform to all my supporters and citizens of this country that I am being coerced to delete something I tweeted on May 21, or else Twitter would block my account.” (Also Read: Paresh Rawal’s recent tweet over Arundhati Roy invites the ire of Twitteratis)

Now, as Twitter India is being blamed for being anti-India and facing boycott by many, the social media platform has finally reacted on the entire row. According to Mumbai Mirror, Twitter India has released a statement which said, “We want people to feel safe expressing diverse opinions and beliefs but we draw the line when it comes to behaviour that crosses the line into abuse, including behaviour designed to consciously harass, intimidate, or silence another person’s voice.”
