On Tuesday i.e January 7, Deepika Padukone joined the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) protest in Delhi along with the students and teachers. She talked to them and also expressed her solidarity with students. Deepika who is rarely seen speaking on politics or any such issues had joined the fray and apart from Bollywood celebs, netizens hailed this action of the ‘Chhapaak’ actress. She was in an all-black attire for the protest.
Photos and videos of the actress at the Jawaharlal Nehru University were all over the internet on social media and she was also trending on micro-blogging site Twitter.

For the unversed, on January 5, a group of masked goons, armed with sledgehammers and sticks entered the JNU campus and destroyed the property of the university and several students and teachers were beaten up. The pics and videos of the attack went viral on the internet.
Coming back to Deepika, while she is lauded by her fans and her peers, but she has also faced a backlash from the ruling party for joining the protest; demanding to boycott her movie ‘Chhapaak’ that is releasing on January 10.
