Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh starrer ‘Udta Punjab’ has been mired in a legal controversy with the Censor Board of India. The CBFC have suggested 89 cuts in the film and this has not gone down well the makers. Plus, the makers have also been asked to remove or replace the word ‘Punjab’ from the title of the film, but the makers refuse to budge and hence, the case has now reached the Bombay High Court.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap along with the team of ‘Udta Punjab’ approached the court against the the decision of Review Committee of the Central Board of Film Certification and produced their matter in front of division bench of Justice Satyaranjan Dharmadhikari and Justice Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi. The court had granted the permission to make amendments to the petition filed by the makers and following this, the court will hear the filmmaker’s appeal today.
‘Udta Punjab’ has a backdrop of drug issue prevalent in the parts of Punjab. Shahid Kapoor plays the role of a rockstar who is always under the influence of drug while Kareena is a doctor who is trying to put an end to this menace of drug issue.
