Uri movie review

Directed by: Aditya Dhar
Produced by: Ronnie Screwvala
Cast: Vicky Kaushal, Kirti Kulhari, Yami Gautam
Duration: 2 hours 7 minutes

The first half of ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ fires plenty of bullets and only a few fail to hit the mark. To start with, the film does make your blood boil and give you a few patriotic goosebumps through its superb fighting scenes and pinpoint dialogues.

Unfortunately, though, the things that did not go down well with this writer are the scenes happening outside of the battlefield. Attempts to bring a sentimental effect to the proceedings aren’t that great. Major Vihaan (Vicky Kaushal) has to leave the battlefield and opt for a desk job in Delhi because his mother has Alzheimer’s.

This sub-plot is unnecessary and takes away from the otherwise crisp retelling. Vicky, who has the maximum scenes, is sincere and real but this is certainly nowhere close to an award-winning performance. Also, there is nothing in this movie that you have never seen before. That said, the film is extremely entertaining and the end of the first half did incite a few claps from the audience.

Special mention should also be made for its superb background score. It does manage to get your heart pumping. The second half is nicely set up and we’re sure it’s all going to end with a bang. Literally.
