Actress- Politician Urmila Matondkar said that she and her husband Mohsin Akhtar have not been able to communicate with his parents, who live in Kashmir, for the past 22 days. The actress lashed out at the Indian government against the ongoing security crackdown in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.
During a recent media interaction, Urmila said that due to the recent announcement of communications lockdown in Kashmir, she has lost all contacts with her in-laws who live there. She went on to reveal that her in-laws suffer from diabetes and high BP. “The question is not about abrogating Article 370 but the manner in which it was done,” she added.
“My father-in-law and mother-in-law stay there. Both are diabetic, have high blood pressure. Today is the 22nd day, neither me nor my husband has been able to speak to them. We have no clue if they have medicines available at home,” she further added.

On August 5, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had announced the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, which gave special status to the state. The state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Whereas, Urmila Matondkar, who recently joined Congress contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North, but lost the seat to BJP candidate Gopal Shetty. She was last seen on the big screen in ‘Blackmail’.
