Recently, singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan found himself in the eye of controversy as a video of him beating a student went viral on the internet. The video sees the singer thrashing a student with a slipper badly while aksing about the whereabouts of a ‘bottle’. As soon as the video went viral, the singer faced a lot of wrath of the netizens. Now, he has released a clarification on the same.
Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan issues clarification on viral video
Rahat uploaded a video on his social media that also has the boy he was beating in the viral video and the boy’s father. In the clarification, the singer defended himself saying it was a ‘personal matter’. He said, “The videos you are seeing are a personal issue between an ustad and shagird (teacher and his disciple). He is like my son. This is how the relationship is between a teacher and his disciple. If a disciple does something good, I shower my love on him. If he does something wrong, he is punished.”
In the viral video, Rahat is seen repeatedly asking where the bottle is and the student saying he doesn’t know. Whereas in the clarification video, the student admitted that he indeed misplaced the bottle. What made the bottle important is that it contained holy water from a religious cleric who recited verses over it.
The student defended his master saying, “He’s like my father. He loves us a lot. Whoever spread this video is trying to defame my ustad.” The singer shared that he apologized to his student after the incident. Even the boy’s father defended the singer. Rahat is a renowned Pakistani singer known for songs like Aafreen Aafreen. He has also given his voice to many Bollywood songs like Jag Ghumeya amongst more.
