The veteran actor Jaya Prada who has been working in the Indian film industry for the past 30 years is in legal trouble. The actor was one of the top actresses back in the day. However, Jaya ji has been sentenced to six months in jail for a fraud case. According to Hindustan Times, the Egmore metropolitan magistrate court issued a six-month jail along with a fine of Rs 5,000.
Details on Jaya Prada’s case
The report suggests that the Sharabi actor was accused of failing to pay the Employee’s State Insurance (ESI) funds. She failed to pay the workers who were working at a cinema theatre she owned in Chennai. Due to this, the theatrical employees eventually filed a complaint against her for failing to disburse the ESI funds as she had been withheld from their paychecks.

Reportedly, the actress’ colleagues Ram Kumar and Raja Babu were also convicted guilty in the same case. In Chennai, she ran a theatre that had to close. Right after the complaint was lodged against her, Jaya Prada and her colleagues who were managing the theatre submitted a plea to the Madras High Court. They were seeking a halt to the proceedings in the Egmore court; however, the High Court dismissed all three of these petitions.
Moreover, the reports further mentioned that Jaya Prada even made an offer to settle the amount owed to the workers. But that was also rejected by the court, resulting in sentence a of six-month imprisonment for her.

Prada ji has more than 300 films under her name as she has worked in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi films. She decided to quit acting when she was at the peak of her career and joined politics. In 1994, she entered the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and then became a Member of Parliament (MP). However, she is now a former MP.
