Veteran actress Kumkum passes away at 86

It is one sad year for Bollywood as we have lost another precious gem. Veteran actress Kumkum has passed away. She was 86 years old. She acted in more than 100 films. She was prominently known for her roles in the movie ‘Mother India’, ‘Kohinoor’, ‘Ujala’, ‘Ek Sapera Ek Lootera’, ‘Naya Daur’, ‘Raja Aur Runk’, ‘Geet’, ‘Aankhen’.

Kumkum was discovered by the late Guru Dutt. He wanted to picturise the song “Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar Laaga Teere Nazar” for his movie ‘Aar Paar’ on his friend Jagdeep who passed away recently. But, then later decided to have a female in the song but no one was agreeing to do such a small song and that is when Kumkum came into the picture.

Kumkum was also the leading lady of first Bhojpuri film ‘Ganga Maiya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo’. Kumkum was married to Sajjad Akbar Khan and had a son.

The reason for her death hasn’t been confirmed yet.
