Bollywood lost another gem as veteran actress Nimmi breathed her last on Wednesday. The yesteryear actress was 88-year-old and she reportedly died due to prolonged illness. Her last rites will take place today. The actress was given the name Nimmi by the legendary filmmaker-actor Raj Kapoor as she made her acting debut with his film ‘Barsaat’.
Talking about the actress her brother-in-law Ijhar Hussain told Indian Express, “She had been unwell for some time now. We will be having the last rites tomorrow but are yet to decide on how to do the funeral considering the body cannot be brought to the society due to the coronavirus, and also we aren’t sure how many people can gather for the funeral. We will make a decision tonight.”
Bollywood celebs remembered the actress and mourned her death. Actor Rishi Kapoor took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “RIP. Thank you Nimmi aunty for all the blessings and love for Bobby on its premiere release. You were part of the RK family. Barsaat was your first film. Allha aapko Jannat naseeb kare. Ameen(sic).”
