Renowned ghazal singer Bhupinder Singh, who had also provided playback to several Hindi film songs, passed away on Monday at the age of 82. The singer was hospitalised at Criticare Hospital in Andheri and he breathed his last this morning at 7:45 pm. He is survived by wife Mitali Singh and son Nihal Singh.
Bhupinder Singh’s wife Mitali Singh confirmed the tragic news to Indian Express as she said, “He passed away on Monday and the funeral will be held mostly on Tuesday. He had a colon ailment.”
Even the singer’s doctor at Criticare Hospital, Dr Deepak Namjoshi, provided an update on what happened to him. He told, “Bhupinderji was admitted ten days back to our hospital. He had an infection. We had strong suspicion that he had Colon ailment and we were doing investigations. In the same time, he got Covid-19. His condition worsened on Monday morning and we had to put him on a ventilator. He got a cardiac arrest and passed away at 7:45 pm.”

Bhupinder Singh hailed from Amritsar and early on his career he used to perform on All India Radio and was also associated with the Delhi Doordarshan Center. His first song in Bollywood was Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga from Haqeeqat that had him sing alongside Mohammed Rafi, Talat Mahmood and Manna Dey. He went on to sing many more duets with Rafi ji and Kishore Kumar.
He married his wife Mitali in the mid 1980s after which he took a step back from playback singing. However, the two used to perform on live shows and ghazal events together. Together, they also have several renowned songs to their credit, the most popular of them being Dil Dhoondta Hai, Do Deewane Shaher Mein, Naam Gum Jayega, Meethe Bol Bole, Kabhi Kisi Ko Mukammal, Kisi Nazar Ko Tera Intezaar aaj Bhi and Ek Akela Is Shehar Mein.
