Vicky Kaushal opens up on his character in film Sardar Udham; talks about his prep

Actor Vicky Kaushal starring the film Sardar Udham is all gearing up for its release. The film trailer was released by the makers today, on Thursday, September 30. The trailer video gives the audience a sneak-peek into the film and what to expect from the upcoming movie. At the trailer launch event of the film, Vicky Kaushal opened up about the character of Sardar Udham Singh he played in the thriller. The film Sardar Udham is based on a true life story.

During the trailer launch event, Vicky was questioned about how does one get into the shoes of a character, when there is minimal information on the same. Answering the question about how he prepared for the character of Sardar Udham Singh, Vicky Kaushal said, “To start with Sardar Udham or any other characters in the history of our freedom struggle, when you go back to our history books, you get lost in a line in a book, or a paragraph or a page in a book. Sardar Udham Singh was that one of those characters, where he was probably that one paragraph or page in that book, but because I had heard stories about him from my dad, my parents, there was always this connect, straight from my core.”

Kaushal added, “I related to that person and I related to his angst. Because, Jallianwala bagh massacre, the episode, took everybody in India or across the globe, and hit home in a brutal way for all of us. So, a person who had taken a note to avenge that bloodshed, not in India, but across the borders, 100 years back, and go all the way into the heart of the British Empire and then to avenge that bloodshed. For me is the stories of zillions of braveries, of patience, of a very very passionate person.”

Vicky Kaushal continued, “And through this film, I really wanted to explore that factor inside me also.” He added, “Very early on, when I started discussing the film with Shoojit da (Shoojit Sircar), I understood that there is only way to go about playing this part was, it was to completely and utterly surrender to his vision and to how he wanted to guide me.”

The Sardar Udham actor said, “Because the more I kept listening to him, the more I understood that the way he understands that era, the way he studied the freedom struggle, and Sardar Udham Singh, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, I have never met a person who studied in such detail. So I had to completely just surrender to his vision, to his guidance, to his direction and that’s how we all started on this journey.”

The film Sardar Udham is directed by Shoojit Sircar. It stars Vicky Kaushal in the key role. The movie is based on the story of Sardar Udham Singh, a gallant and patriotic man who fought selflessly and courageously against the British subjugation of India.
