Ranbir Kapoor has been receiving accolades for his recent release ‘Sanju’, a biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt. Ranbir has brought alive the trials and tribulations of Sanjay Dutt on the big screen with panache. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial has opened to a tremendous response and has not only fans but critics singing its praises.
Not only Ranbir Kapoor, even Vicky Kaushal of ‘Raazi’ fame has also given an outstanding performance as Sanju’s best friend, Kamlesh, fondly called as Kamli. If Ranbir is the true whole and soul of ‘Sanju’, then Kamli is the perfect foil to him. Vicky, who is at present shooting for his next ‘Uri’ in Serbia, is pleased as a punch for the appreciation coming his way.

In an interview to Pinkvilla, the actor opened up about the good reviews that have been pouring in. He said, “More than the numbers, it’s the love that people are showing – How they could connect to the friendship, father-son emotion and the characters. So all of that is very heartwarming. People are saying that they all need a friend like Kamli. For me, honestly, being a part of a Rajkumar Hirani film is in itself a dream come true. I was happy that I am a part of this special film.”
He even revealed that he had met Kamlesh in real life. “I have met Kamlesh. He had visited us once we were shooting in Mumbai. We spoke over WhatsApp yesterday. He is Mumbai, but I am in Serbia shooting for Uri. He met my family members there in Mumbai. He told me yesterday that he could connect to it and even Sanju sir called me and said the same – he was touched. He felt that friendship,” said the actor.
On picking the Gujarati accent really well. Vicky said, “I did train for it and I would like to credit this to Dimple Shah who is into Gujarati theatre. Even the co-writer of the film is a Gujarati and we used to sit and work on the dialect. I was quite scared but luckily I did manage to crack it.”
‘Sanju’ has raked in a whopping amount of Rs 34 crores at the box office. Thus making it the highest first-day opener of 2018. Trade pundits are predicting that if the biopic maintains its current trend then it might soon enter the Rs, 100 crore club.
