The process for selecting the film for India’s entry in the Oscars 2022 has already begun. This selection is for the International Feature Film Category. Jury members will be streaming a total of 14 films in Kolkata to pick the final entry. Shortlisted for the Oscars 2022 entry are Vicky Kaushal starrer Sardar Udham and Vidya Balan starrer Sherni among others. Both movies have been streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Talking about Sardar Udham, Vicky Kaushal is seen as the freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh who had assassinated had Michael O’Dwyer in 1940 who was the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab in British India. The movie also stars Amol Parashar as Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
Meanwhile, talking about Sherni, Vidya Balan is seen as a forest officer who is trying to resolve the issues between man and animal. Directed by Amit Masurkar, the film also starred Sharat Saxena, Mukul Chaddha, Vijay Raaz, Ila Arun, Brijendra Kala and Neeraj Kabi in pivotal roles.

The 94th Academy Awards will be held in March 2022 in California, US. The selecting of India’s official entry for the Oscars is taking place at Bijoli cinema in Bhowanipore, Kolkata. The panel consists of 15 judges. Apart from Sardar Udham and Sherni , other movies shortlisted for Oscars are Malayalam film Nayattu and Tamil film Mandela.
