A few days back we told you how in one of his interviews with The Telegraph, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra was not happy with Rajkumar Hirani’s decision of casting Ranbir Kapoor in ‘Sanju’ as he wanted someone like Ranveer Singh.
In the interview, Chopra who is the co-producer of ‘Sanju’ had said, “It was Raju’s (Rajkumar Hirani) idea to cast Ranbir. When he told me about Ranbir, I wasn’t happy at all. I thought someone else, like Ranveer Singh, could play this role much better. I thought Ranveer had the flamboyance, the emotional depth as well as the ability to change himself completely to play Sanjay Dutt. But Raju was adamant that Ranbir would be perfect.”
However, in his recent interview with India Today, taking his words back, Vidhu said, “When Raju came to me, I said, ‘How can Ranbir do this?’ I’m telling you now that when I see the film, one of the things that really moves me is his performance. He is just outstanding. And I’ve worked with too many actors to be able to say that.”
The filmmaker further added, “In retrospect, let’s say I’m foolish. Yes, I was foolish. At that time, I really felt like maybe he is not right and maybe even some newcomer should do it. But what this guy has done, I don’t think anybody could have.

Interestingly when Ranbir Kapoor was asked if he knew about Vidhu’s unwillingness regarding casting him in the film, the actor told Peeping Moon, “I don’t know about his regrets and anything of that kind. But I am really happy that it(Sanju) came into my life.”
‘Sanju’ that released today is already garnering a great response from the critics as well as the audience which means Ranbir Kapoor has lived up to everyone’s expectations.
