The news of actress Vidya Balan portraying the role of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in an adaptation of journalist Sagarika Ghose’s book ‘Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister’, has already been out in the open. However, the actress recently revealed some interesting details about the same.
While speaking to Mid-Day, Vidya revealed that the Indira Gandhi biopic will be made into a web series and not a film, as there is a lot of material to be shown about the her, which cannot be covered in three hours. “There is too much material for it be made into a film. So, we decided to turn it into a web series. We don’t know how many seasons we will be allotting to it. We are in the process of putting together a team,” Vidya says.
The actress is also super excited to play Indira Gandhi onscreen and says that it was her long cherished dream, which is finally coming true.
The web series will be produced by Ronnie Screwvala and the research for the digital show is already under process. Vidya further adds, “We have to do a lot more research. Developing the script will take long, as there is so much information on her. We can’t put a timeline as to when the project will go on floors.”
When asked if they will have to seek permission for the biopic from the Gandhi family, to which she said, “We don’t require permission, as it’s based on a book and we have the rights to it.”
