Unfortunately, social media has given rise to trolls who are people who don’t even think twice before passing a negative comment on an actor’s family, relationships, life, body and what not.
We have seen several celebs even quitting social media, as they are unable to cope up with the negativity that is prevalent nowadays. Every day, we come across stories of Bollywood celebrities being trolled or subjected to body-shaming on these social networking sites.
National-award winning actress Vidya Balan has never shied away from talking about being subjected to body-shaming at various phases of her life. The actress had even shared how she hated being in a battle with her body when she wasn’t able to fit in the “conventional Bollywood actress” category.
Vidya is all set to make her debut as a radio chat show host for 92.7 Big FM, wherein she will be discussing a range of topics like domestic violence, women empowerment, body-shaming and other such important issues. The actress shot for a video and delivered a heart-piercing message on how body-shaming damages one’s self-respect.
In the said video, Vidya is heard singing several popular Bollywood songs with changed lyrics. One of them goes like- “Kabhi tu moti kehta hai, kabhi tu patli kehta hai, kabhi tu kaali kehta hai, kabhi tu savli kehta hai.”
Her version of those popular songs highlights how casually people make derogatory comments without even caring about its impact. The video ends with Vidya saying, “Cracking jokes on someone’s body size, eyes, parts, colour is not the right thing. You have no idea how much these jokes affect the self-confidence of a person. Everyone is not the same and that’s the reason why everyone is so special.”

We are so glad that our Bollywood stars are opening about real issues rather than just concentrating on earning big at the box office. We need more people to come out and be vocal about things that actually matter and are the need of the hour. Thank you, Vidya for not bowing down to the pressures of this glamorous world and proving why a real actor is above all these petty things.
On the work front, Vidya will be seen in ‘Mission Mangal’. She also has the biopic of Shakuntala Devi in her kitty.
