Manu Sharma had killed Jessica Lal in 1999. Actress Vidya Balan had played Jessica’s sister Sabrina Lal in Raj Kumar Gupta’s ‘No One Killed Jessica’ (2011). Recently reports of Manu Sharma’s release from jail on grounds of ‘good behaviour’ has surfaced. Vidya reacting on his release said that no amount of time spent in jail by people like him is enough.
Speaking to The Quint, Vidya Balan commenting on Manu’s early release said, “Personally speaking, I don’t think any amount of time for him or for people like him in jail is enough. So that will always play in my mind. Yes, maybe he has turned a new leaf. I hope he has. I hope he is a reformed person.”
The National-award winning actress further added, “After spending so much time in jail. That is the point of being in prison, right? That you reform. So let us hope that has happened.”

In 1999, Manu Sharma, son of former Union minister Venod Sharma, had shot dead Jessica after she refused to serve him liquor at a night club. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court in December 2006.
Raj Kumar Gupta’s ‘No One Killed Jessica’ also starring Rani Mukerji, showcased the difficulties Jessica’s family faced while fighting for justice.
