Tigmanshu Dhulia’s forthcoming film, a biopic on Meena Kumari, was set to roll starring Vidya Balan in the titular role. However, citing that the script didn’t work out, Vidya has moved out of the project.
In a conversation with DNA, she revealed how she found the script to be rather an attempt of sensationalisation than being a true account of different phases and events of the legendary actress’ life.
“No, I’m not doing the Meena Kumari-biopic anymore. It didn’t quite work out. I love Meena Kumari. If I had a girl crush on somebody, it would be her. If she was alive, I’d probably land up to see her all the time. I am that fascinated by her. I always wanted to play her.
The script has to do justice. It can’t just be a sensational account of her life, even if she is not around. It has to present different episodes of her life and not just the ones that will grab eyeballs. So, I decided not to do it,” she said. The film initially went to Kangana Ranaut, to which Meena Kumari’s family members objected and even issued an explanation advocating why Kangana wouldn’t be a perfect fit for the role.
We wonder’s who’s next!
