Vidya Balan is a true chameleon when it comes to her characters. Her ability to transform herself on screen is exemplary. With her next, Neeyat, Vidya Balan turns a detective. And while the film’s trailer is intriguing, it does remind of the Daniel Craig, Chris Evans and Ana De Armas starrer Knives Out.

Neeyat trailer review
The trailer opens in a sea-facing castle in Scotland where Ram Kapoor is celebrating his birthday with his close ones. There is family, friends, some mysterious guests and a whole lot of drama right before Ram’s character jumps off a cliff. There comes Vidya as detective Mira Rao who announces that it isn’t a suicide but a murder case. What follows is a whodunnit mystery with many suspects and convoluting narratives.
The whole setting, the relationships and even some dressing sense as well reminds of the 2019 film Knives Out. Ram is dressed like Christopher Plummer while Amrita Puri reminds of Ana De Armas from the film. While the makers haven’t said that it is an Indian adaptation of the film, but it does look so.
However, credit where its due, the film does manage to build up a mystery around the murder and its characters. Vidya seems a bit too coy and shy for a detective and that’s a depart from Craig’s character in Knives Out. Maybe the film will be able to explain why is she so.
The cast includes names like Rahul Bose, Prajakta Koli, Niki Walia, Shashank Arora, Neeraj Kabi, Shahana Goswami, Dipannita Sharma, Danesh Razvi, Ishika Mehra and Madhav Deval. The impact of most of the cast members is quite limited in the trailer. But it’s experienced actors like Rahul, Niki and even Shashank and Shahana who are able to build an intrigue.
